Artists

David Hurlin received his BFA in photography and tabla of the Hindustani classical music tradition from Maharishi International University (MIU) including time abroad in India studying with tabla master Anup Ghosh. Hurlin is a professional drummer and percussionist; drummer for Elizabeth Moen, Bo Ramsey, Apocalyspo Tantric Noise Choir, Soulmath and most recently with Mike Dillon Band and Nolatet. He has toured all over the country and Europe and is in high demand, both as a performer and session drummer. In addition to touring and recording, Hurlin is working on compositions and collaborations at the very edge of drumming, which lean more toward sound art, sculpture, instrument building and performance art. Most notable is his 2020 collaboration with Joey Fauerso at Bemis Center, and in 2021 with Tony Orrico at University of Iowa. He is currently pursuing his MFA at University of Iowa in sculpture/intermedia.
M. Miller has lived most of the last 50 years in Iowa City - a student, a teacher, a lover of poems and stories, a friend to libraries, a Germanophile and an admirer of purple. She loves words.
